Letters: Watts winners

Re “From Watts to the world,” Column, Nov. 25
Amid the commercials and advertisements over the Thanksgiving weekend, it was uplifting to read Steve Lopez’s column about Rodney and Renee Brooks’ family.
The couple, valuing education and striving to raise their children with positive values and hope, chose to live in Watts in a modest home and provide all six of their children with an excellent upbringing. The children are all accomplished young men and women, earning degrees from prestigious colleges and universities and taking their places in the professional world.
What an inspiration they are to the many young people who are growing up in Watts, where the odds of success are not great.
