Re “Is Mars really worth the trip?,” July 30

Your headline implies that the $2.5 billion spent on the Curiosity mission to Mars is just thrown away. In fact, NASA pays people (engineers, suppliers and many more), who then spend it on the goods and services that keep our economy strong.
