Skier fatally injured after crashing into stairway at Bear Mountain Ski Resort
A skier was fatally injured Sunday after colliding with a metal stairway at Bear Mountain Ski Resort, coroner’s officials said.
Natalie Altieri, 21, was skiing at the resort at about 10:30 a.m. when she crashed into the stairway, according to the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.
The Ohio woman was taken to the hospital, where she died about an hour later.
Altieri was a student at the University of Cincinnati and was interning as an accessories design intern at BCBG Max Azria in Los Angeles.
Altieri’s sister Audrey Alysse on Facebook said her sister was enrolled in the university’s fashion design program.
“Today I lost my best friend, and I cannot imagine my life without her,†her sister said Sunday. “My family and I are heartbroken.â€
University president Santa Ono expressed sadness over Altieri’s death.
“My heart goes out to the friends and family of Natalie Altieri,†he tweeted. “We are fortunate that she graced the halls of the University of Cincinnati.â€
Altieri was active on social media. Her last tweet was on Nov. 26 of a walk on Venice Beach.
