A San Francisco police officer whose good looks earned him the nickname “Hot Cop of Castro†was on medical leave when he allegedly hit two pedestrians with his Dodge Charger, then abandoned his vehicle and ran away, police said.

Officer Christopher Kohrs turned himself in to fellow officers at police headquarters Sunday, according to the San Francisco Police Department. He was arrested and later booked on suspicion of two felony counts of hit-and-run.

Kohrs, a 7-year San Francisco police veteran, was off-duty at the time of the crash and on medical leave for an unrelated medical condition, police said. If Kohrs becomes eligible to return to duty in the future, he will be suspended, the department said in a statement.

Police allege Kohrs’ Dodge Charger crashed into two men who were walking across Broadway near Montgomery Street at about 2:20 a.m.

Kohrs hopped out of the Charger and fled the scene on foot, police said. Kohrs is the registered owner of the Charger, so SFPD investigators was able to identify him, according to the department’s statement.

Both victims, in their 40s, were taken to an area hospital. The men remained hospitalized Monday with non-life threatening injuries.

With his chiseled, athletic body, Kohrs gained a following while patrolling in the city’s Castro district; online he became known as the “Hot Cop of Castro.â€

A Facebook fan page with more than 50,000 followers features shirtless photos of Kohrs and showcases charitable initiatives for the Officer Down Memorial Fund.
