Port preservation: In the June 7 LATExtra section, an article about a national preservation group’s naming Terminal Island one of America’s most endangered historic places included an archival photo whose caption may have been misleading. The caption, quoting from the article, said that “many Japanese women worked in canneries on Terminal Island while their husbands fished during the 1920s and ‘30s.” However, the photo was from January 1942.

Poultry inspections: An article in the June 6 Business section about new rules for inspecting poultry said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture found little difference in the instances of “salmonella and other pathogens” in processing plants operating under existing rules and test plants with fewer inspectors and faster production lines. In fact, salmonella rates were lower in test plants from 2006 to 2008 and were slightly higher, but by a statistically insignificant amount, in 2009 and 2010. The USDA found greater differences in the incidence of other pathogens such as septicemia and toxemia, for which rates were as much as 14% lower in test plants.

Shirley MacLaine: An article about Shirley MacLaine in the June 6 Calendar section referred to “The Apartment” as the 1961 best picture winner. Its best picture Oscar was for movies released in 1960.

Barbara Walters: In the June 7 Calendar section, a headline on a Quick Takes item misspelled the last name of TV journalist Barbara Walters as Walter.

Movie listing: In the June 3 Calendar section, a movie listing in the Guide gave the title of the film “6 Month Rule” as “Month Rule,” omitting the numeral.
