Tommy Lee Jones joins Matt Damon in next ‘Bourne’ movie
The next spy film in the “Bourne†franchise has tracked down another cast member in Tommy Lee Jones, thus avoiding a search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in Hollywood.
Jones, best known for portraying a tenacious U.S. marshal in “The Fugitive,†joins a cast including Matt Damon, Julia Stiles and Alicia Vikander. A person with knowledge of the project confirmed Jones’ casting to The Times; Variety first reported the news.
Paul Greengrass, who directed previous franchise installments “The Bourne Supremacy†and “The Bourne Ultimatum,†is reprising his duties after sitting out the spinoff “The Bourne Legacy†(as did Damon). Greengrass is also co-writing the new film, which does not yet have a title, with Christopher Rouse.
Plot details of the “Bourne†sequel have yet to emerge, though they will presumably find Damon’s super-spy continuing to battle shadowy forces and grapple with his clouded past.
Shooting is expected to start later this summer. The film is scheduled for release July 29, 2016, from Universal Pictures.
Jones most recently appeared on screen in “The Homesman,†which he also directed. His other upcoming movies include “Criminal†and “Mechanic: Resurrection.â€
