Richard Linklater’s next film, a to-be-titled baseball comedy that has been described as a spiritual sequel to “Dazed and Confused,†will hit theaters April 15, Paramount Pictures announced Monday.

The film, which was formerly known as “That’s What I’m Talking About†and may currently have the working title “Everybody Wants Some,†follows a group of college ballplayers navigating the freedoms and responsibilities of early adulthood in the 1980s. The cast includes Blake Jenner, Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell and Ryan Guzman.

Linklater most recently directed the coming-of-age drama “Boyhood,†which won an Oscar for supporting actress Patricia Arquette and earned several other nominations, including best picture, director and original screenplay.

On its April 15 release date, Linklater’s baseball movie is scheduled to open against Universal’s “The Best Man Wedding,†Disney’s “The Jungle Book†and Lionsgate’s “Mechanic: Resurrection.â€

Linklater’s film replaces Paramount’s comedy “Bad Moms†on the calendar. Leslie Mann was to star in the latter film and husband Judd Apatow was to produce, but the two exited the project last month. A new release date has not been set.
