TV ratings: Fox’s ‘Almost Human’ premieres solid, NBC football wins

Fox’s “Almost Human†arrested plenty of viewers in its premiere Sunday night.

The sci-fi cop series from J.H. Wyman and J.J. Abrams drew a rating of 3.1 in the key 18-49 age demographic and pulled in an average of 9.1 viewers, according to early numbers from Nielsen. The series, set in the future when human Los Angeles Police Department officers pair with androids, had its premiere delayed two weeks to follow football.

Launching after a big NFL lead-in, “Almost Human†is the third new drama from Fox to score better than a 3.0 in the last 10 months (the other two are “Sleepy Hollow†and “The Followingâ€). Its next episode aires Monday night.

The adrenaline-fueled show, starring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, also did well among young women, beating ABC’s “Once Upon a Time†with a 2.6 in that demo. In addition, its rating with 18-34-year-olds was the network’s best since “K-Ville†debuted in 2007.

Elsewhere on Fox, “The Simpsons†matched last week’s 1.8 rating in 18-49, followed by “Family Guy,†which grew 10% to a 2.2.

NBC won with a rising “Sunday Night Football.†The Kansas City Chief-Denver Broncos game drew 25 million viewers and a 9.1 in 18-49 in prime time, according to non-time-zone-adjusted numbers, up 30% from last week.

According to metered-market numbers, which are adjusted for time zones, the game drew a rating of 16.6, tied for the second-highest “Sunday Night Football†game of the season.

CBS had “The Amazing Race,†down 9% to a 2.0 in 18-49. “The Good Wife†fell 18% to a 1.4, and “The Mentalist†ticked down 7% to a 1.3, but overall, “The Mentalist†delivered its largest total audience since its premiere.

On ABC, “America’s Funniest Home Videos†rose 8% to a 1.4 in 18-49. While “Once Upon a Time†fell 10% to a 1.9 for its series low, “Revenge†rose 15% to a 1.5 and “Betrayal†recovered 13% for a 0.9.
