CW beats NBC’s Thursday comedy block in key demo for the first time

In another sign of how much the blood has drained from NBC’s Thursdays, the hot, young vampires and royalty of the CW have surpassed the peacock network in ratings for the first time ever in head-to-head competition on the night in the key 18-49 demographic.

With “The Vampire Daires” and “Reign,” the CW generated a 1.0 from its prime-time slate among viewers ages 18 to 49, the category most desired by advertisers.

NBC, which is struggling in the comparable time slots with “Parks and Recreation,” “Sean Saves the World” and “The Michael J. Fox Show,” averaged a 0.9 from 8 to 10 p.m.

“Vampire Diaries” drew a 1.3 in 18-49, beating “Parks and Recreation’s” 1.0 at 8 p.m. In 18-49, a ratings point equals roughly 1.3 million viewers. At 9 p.m., the Mary, Queen of Scots series “Reign” posted a 0.7. Both shows were flat compared with last week.

“Sean” and “Michael J. Fox” were each flat at their season lows of 0.9. It was a slight slide by “Parks” that caused NBC to fall below the CW.

However, adding in “Parenthood” at 10 p.m. brings NBC up to a 1.0 rating for the whole night of originals, and NBC definitely tops the CW in total viewership.

Still, it looks like “Sean” isn’t saving much of anything right now.
