at Seattle 3, Texas 1: Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning for the Mariners. Ichiro Suzuki, who had three hits to raise his average to .361, opened the eighth with a single off C.J. Wilson (4-4). After two outs, Ken Griffey Jr. walked and Gutierrez launched a 1-and-0 fastball into the bleachers in center field.
Kansas City 8, at Boston 6: The Royals rallied from an early four-run deficit and knocked the Red Sox out of sole possession of first place in the East Division.
New York 6, at Minnesota 4: Mark Teixeira ended a 23-game homerless drought and the Yankees completed a season sweep (seven games) of the Twins. It was Teixiera’s first homer in 96 at-bats.
Cleveland 10, at Chicago 8: Kelly Shoppach hit a grand slam and had a career-high five RBIs. Five Cleveland relievers combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings against a Chicago club that has scored 96 runs in its last 15 games.
