Planners Hope for No Bad Vibrations at Beach Boys Monument

The Hawthorne address where Beach Boys Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson grew up has won recognition as a state historical landmark and will be honored with a small monument May 20.

The Beach Boys were a uniquely Southern California story -- and so is their monument.

It will sit in front of a Century Freeway sound wall, which is where their since-demolished home, at 3701 W. 119th St., once stood.

The sound wall, of course, is supposed to help prevent residents from feeling bad vibrations.

Surfin’ U.S.A. (Westside division): “The attached was left behind on a table at Starbucks in Pacific Palisades,” wrote Richard Bauer (see accompanying).

“No one came back to claim it. Obviously, the surfer has his priorities straight!”

“Duh!” award winner: On Tuna Canyon Road, Robert Riskin of Topanga spotted a rather obvious piece of advice (see photo).

Remember: If the road isn’t passable, don’t try to pass over it.

For people in their cups? Ruth Giller of Winnetka noticed that a few letters out of place on an online travel guide made the word “brasserie” sound like something sexier (see accompanying).

Which reminds me: Graduation time will be here soon. My nephew Nick Gannon of Anaheim Hills told me about one popular gift at his old school, Canyon High. “I knew five different girls who got breast implants as graduation presents,” he said.

Now for the not-the-news: There’s nothing quite like the KCAL (Channel 9) news immediately after a Laker game, as the station struggles to keep young basketball fans tuned in.

Here were the lead “news” stories after a recent game, as noted by the media website ronfineman.com:

* No. 1: The trade of receiver Randy Moss to the Oakland Raiders (yes, this was the top story).

* No. 2: The finalization of the divorce of actress Rebecca Romijn and actor John Stamos.

* No. 3: The divorce filing by actress Denise Richards against actor Charlie Sheen.

* No. 4: The news that singer Britney Spears thought actress Paris Hilton’s dog Tinkerbell is cute (apparently retracting her former statement that the dog was not cute).

Observed webmaster Ron Fineman, a former radio newsman: “Want to know what happened in Iraq? Want to know what is new in the campaign for mayor? Who knows? Britney’s opinion of Tinkerbell comes first.”

miscelLAny: In a store near Bakersfield, Lisalee Wells of Long Beach chanced upon a display that reminded her of the expression: “When life hands you pickles, make lemonade” (see photo).
