Sentence Reduced for Suharto’s Son
Indonesia’s Supreme Court has reduced a jail sentence for the youngest son of ex-dictator Suharto to 10 years from 15 for ordering the assassination of a judge, an official said.
Hutomo “Tommy” Mandala Putra had asked the court to review a July 2002 ruling by the Central Jakarta District Court, which sentenced him for orchestrating the killing of Supreme Court Justice Syaifudin Kartasasmita.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear Tommy’s appeal after he filed the request for a judicial review in July 2003 that contained unspecified new evidence against the verdict.
