Police Chief Charged in Laundering Scheme
From Times Wire Reports
The police chief in Opelousas has been indicted on charges that he misappropriated more than $200,000 and threatened to kill an officer subpoenaed to testify against him.
Chief Larry Caillier could face more charges, Assistant Atty. Gen. Burton P. Guidry said after the 21-count indictment was handed down Wednesday.
A legislative audit found that $220,000 was misappropriated, including $54,000 in missing equipment. In addition, $150,000 was passed through private accounts that had no documentation.
