Wife, Husband Killed in Single-Car Accident

An elderly couple died in a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Laguna Woods, authorities said.
Ellen Eckel, 78, and her husband, Charlie, 83, died at the scene when their 1993 Dodge Colt crashed into an embankment on Via Buena Vista about 11 a.m., said Lt. Hayward Miller of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Charlie Eckel, the passenger, was wearing a seat belt, Miller said. He said it was unclear if the Ellen Eckel was wearing hers.
