Not Everyone’s Along for the Ride

I was shocked and disappointed to see that the letters to the editor and the editorials were not printed in the June 16 editorial page. There is a war going on, political polarization, corruption, economic uncertainty and any number of other worthy issues for reporters, editors and readers to address and discuss. You have chosen to devote the space instead to cutesy descriptions of your staff’s commutes to work. Infotainment?

Perhaps you should find editorial staff members who have some perspective, knowledge and desire to write meaningful, well-researched pieces worthy of a major newspaper and understand the value of community input. This doesn’t cut it.

Good piece on the commuting times and routes of your editorial staff, but why do none of the editors ride a bike to work? Four of them live within very reasonable distances (10 miles or less) and a rider in good shape can keep up with, or even pass, rush-hour traffic.

I ride twice a week from Culver City to Glendale, 17 miles each way over the Cahuenga Pass. No need to waste time at a gym, and I get my aggression out by barking at potential hazards (i.e. drivers). It’s quite liberating. Doug Schwartz
