At Least 113 Killed in Heat Wave
From Times Wire Reports
A heat wave has killed at least 113 people in eastern and southern India, with monsoon rains delayed across most of the country.
Temperatures touched 122 in Angul district, 100 miles west of Orissa state’s capital, Bhubaneshwar, said state government official D.N. Sahu.
The victims mainly were elderly people, young children and the poor, who often lack proper shelter and adequate drinking water, officials said. The heat has been worsened by power outages, which disable fans and water pumps.
