California: deli delight
Whoa Nellie Deli, 22 Vista Point, Lee Vining 93541; (760) 647-1088, www.thesierraweb.com/tiogagasmart. “Inside the Tioga Gas Mart is the Whoa Nellie Deli, an unlikely gourmet oasis on a remote stretch of highway, at the junction of Highway 395 and Highway 120 (Tioga Pass Road), near Yosemite. Chef Matt Toomey serves up lobster taquitos, buffalo meatloaf and tenderloin in an apricot-brandy glaze. It’s to die for. Open April through November, and the views of famous Mono Lake are as fabulous as the food.” Entrees $10 to $22.
