Our Best Hope for Animal Care?
As an owner of two pound dogs and all too aware of the horrendous animal “shelter” problems in this country, I was skeptical as I started reading the article about Guerdon Stuckey, the new head of L.A.’s Department of Animal Services (“Animal Government,” by Janet Kinosian, Metropolis, May 8). But a good interview has a way of exposing someone’s character, motivation and worldview. And before long, I was nodding my head with hope and enthusiasm. This man truly understands the big picture, and if anyone can fix a complicated bureaucratic problem, he can.

Stuckey’s words must be taken with a grain of salt. He may just be saying what animal lovers (i.e., most people) want to hear. It’s a cliche, but actions do speak louder than words. An analysis of his responses compared to the actions he’s taking would be the true test of his integrity.
