Let Egypt profit
It would appear that Mike Boehm [“Curse of the Blockbuster?” May 22] has never heard the word “capitalism.”
Can you imagine? The Egyptians are interested in making money? It’s money that will be used to properly protect and display national treasures. If one were to add up the value of all the items stolen from Egypt over the years by foreigners (“spirited away,” as Boehm says), then the Egyptians are entitled to every penny they can “milk” from displaying their treasures.
Boehm uses that term “spirited away” in referring to the meticulous work done by Howard Carter and his team of dedicated archeologists, who took several years to carefully protect and remove Tutankhamun’s riches so that they could be preserved, protected and viewed by countless throngs that would be unable to view these items within the narrow confines of the pharaoh’s tomb.
