Not Much Good Stuff Said About Dodgers

As I watch the Dodgers embody the “Moneyball” philosophy by going deep into the count night after night, I can take comfort that they will be the first team to lead the league in walks while finishing in fourth place in a five-team division.

Lost in the carnage of Paul DePodesta’s dismantling of what used to be a very good baseball team was the fact that he shipped away a valuable ballplayer in Dave Roberts for virtually nothing in return. While “Moneyball” may not value the speed and hustle of someone like Roberts, he has been a vital part of the Padres’ success this year.

DePodesta’s failure to acquire more value in the Roberts trade is further proof of his ineptitude and just one more depressing footnote in what promises to be a reign of mediocrity.

Instead of Adopt-A-Highway or Adopt-A-Manatee, we suggest a program where interested Dodger fans can Adopt-A-Uniform. In return for their contribution, a Dodger will be able to get his name on the back of his uniform, thus enabling all fans to easily identify with their favorite Dodgers. All proceeds to go to the Dodger owners, who will remain nameless!
