Man Kills Woman, Shoots Self in Chatsworth
A 56-year-old man fatally shot his girlfriend in Chatsworth on Friday morning after telling her he had a gift for her, police said. They said he then shot himself in the head, inflicting a serious wound.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives said William Van Batenburg and Beverly Snellings, 46, had been involved in a domestic dispute before the shootings in an apartment complex parking lot in the 9900 block of De Soto Avenue.
Van Batenburg was reported in stable condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, and officials said he was likely to survive.
