U.S. to Review Status of Endangered Fish

The federal government has agreed to review the endangered species status of the delta smelt, a tiny fish that San Joaquin Valley farmers believe is no longer threatened by extinction.
Under settlement of a lawsuit brought by the California Farm Bureau, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will study whether the fish has recovered in sufficient numbers to warrant being taken off the endangered list.
Protection of the smelt can interrupt water deliveries to farmers.
