Woman Pleads No Contest to Animal Abuse
From Times Staff Reports
A woman pleaded no contest Wednesday to misdemeanor animal abuse charges for keeping 60 cats in cramped and unsanitary conditions in her West Hills home.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Michael Hoff sentenced Marge Weems, 58, to three years’ probation.
During that time, she may not receive donations for animal rescues, operate an Internet site or run a pet shelter.
Since 1992, Weems has operated the Angel Puss and Pooch Rescue in Canoga Park.
Hoff also barred her from owning more than three cats and ordered her to undergo counseling.
