Kona Gold Is Retired
Kona Gold, who won the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Sprint and was voted champion sprinter that year, has been retired.
The 9-year-old gelding finished fifth in Saturday’s Bing Crosby Handicap, a race he had won twice before.
Trained and owned in part by Bruce Headley, Kona Gold had 14 wins, seven seconds and two thirds in 30 starts and earned $2.2 million. Alex Solis rode him in all but two races.
