Raptors Embarrass the Wizards

A couple of pickups from the National Basketball Development League stunned Michael Jordan into silence.

Rafer Alston and Damone Brown, both playing on 10-day contracts from that league, had 13 points apiece, and Alston added 11 assists as the Toronto Raptors upset the Wizards, 84-75, Tuesday night at Washington.

Jerome Williams scored 14 points and had 20 rebounds, and Morris Peterson had 21 points for the Raptors, who dressed only eight players because of injuries.

“No comment from me tonight,” Jordan said afterward. “No comment at all.”

Jordan scored 22 points but made only one of six shots in the fourth quarter.

San Antonio 108, Phoenix 100 -- Tim Duncan had eight of his season-high 38 points in overtime, and finished with 16 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Spurs at San Antonio.

Stephon Marbury had 29 points for the Suns.

Milwaukee 97, Atlanta 88 -- Ray Allen and Sam Cassell had 21 points apiece to lead the Bucks at Milwaukee.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim led the Hawks with 23 points.

Miami 88, Detroit 85 -- Caron Butler had 22 points at Miami and the Heat survived missing six of eight free throws in the final 1:05 to end a six-game losing streak.

Richard Hamilton had 24 points for Detroit.

New York 98, Chicago 86 -- Allan Houston had 26 points at New York as the Knicks handed the Bulls their 17th straight road loss.

Owner Robert Johnson completed a deal with Charlotte, N.C., that clears the way for construction of a $260-million downtown arena for his expansion team. It begins play in 2004.
