News gets away
At least Channel 4 got it right Tuesday night. While most other local TV stations, including channels 2, 5, 9 and 11, were airing coverage of a long-running and uneventful police pursuit, KNBC had the sense to keep its news balance and air the real news.
I was eager to watch a recap of the shuttle Columbia memorial services, the mayoral slugfest in Southgate, Secretary of State Colin Powell’s preparations for his U.N. speech, and any number of other “news” stories, but everywhere I tuned in, I saw what I found out later was a two-hour-plus, slow-paced police pursuit involving a stolen car. Oh, Channel 4 had it too -- a sensible, quick shot of the suspects being taken into custody -- that’s it.
God help us if another weirdo decides to try and evade police on local freeways just as we launch a war against Iraq.
