Exon Leads Warriors to Victory
Elizabeth Exon, Woodbridge’s top singles player, swept her three matches to lead the Warriors to a 10-8 victory over Mater Dei in a non-league girls’ tennis match Wednesday at Woodbridge.
Exon won her matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. Haleh Fazeli and Jennifer Ross won a key doubles match to break an 8-8 tie. Mater Dei fell to 3-2.
In other girls’ tennis matches:
Foothill 13, Esperanza 5--Susanna Ragab won her three singles matches by identical 6-1 scores as the visiting Knights (6-1) defeated Esperanza (5-4) for the first time in school history.
Simi Valley 12, Quartz Hill 6--Jillian Jones and Heather Roush each won two singles matches but it couldn’t prevent the Rebels (4-2) from falling to the undefeated Pioneers (8-0) at home.
In girls’ golf:
Redondo 207, Santa Monica 236--Marina Choi shot an even-par 34 at Penmar Golf Course to lead Redondo (1-0), the Times’ No. 3-ranked team, to the victory over the Vikings.
Nikeda Cooks shot a 36 to lead Santa Monica.
Burroughs 234, Burbank 251, Valencia 273--Moah Chang of Burbank claimed individual medalist honors with a two-under par 29 at El Carsio Golf Course.
Teammate Grace Woo shot a 30. Scarlet Wilson paced victorious Burroughs with a 44.
In boys’ water polo:
El Segundo 14, Loyola 7--A.J. Lester had five goals and Riley Brady added four for host El Segundo (9-1), which led, 14-3, after three periods in its first victory over Loyola (3-5) since 1995.
