The City Council rescinded its lawsuit against a failed campaign reform initiative after debating with the measure’s supporters.
At the heart of the verbal skirmish was a proposed “taxpayer protection” initiative aimed at prohibiting campaign donations from companies with city contracts.
The measure died last week when roughly 2,800 of more than 12,000 petition signatures gathered by the Ralph Nader-led Oaks Project were deemed invalid. The group needed to collect 9,736 names, or 10% of Irvine’s registered voters.
