Michigan State’s Siitupe Peko and his brother were free on bail Monday, a day after they were arrested in Orlando, Fla., for purse-snatching.
Bail was set at $4,500 for Peko, who is charged with robbery, battery and battery on an officer. His brother, Milton Peko, who is charged with robbery, battery and resisting arrest without violence, had bail set at $3,500.
Peko, a starting offensive tackle, and his brother were arrested after allegedly approaching Charlene Martinez and Julio Gueits outside Church Street Station, a popular night spot, late Saturday. Police said they threatened the couple and that Siitupe Peko grabbed Martinez’s purse.
Martinez, 18, fought for her purse, so Siitupe Peko pushed her head, knocking her to the ground. Gueits was pushed by both brothers. The Pekos, of La Mirada, are each 6 feet 4. Siitupe weighs 295 pounds, his brother 260.
When police officers later asked the Pekos for identification, they became agitated, and Siitupe Peko headbutted an officer who was searching him, police said. The officer was wearing a bicycle helmet and was not hurt.
