The Planning Commission unanimously approved a permit for a Starbucks Coffee in a commercial center on the northwest corner of Orangethorpe Avenue and Harbor Boulevard.
After Starbucks has been in operation six months, the city will study whether it hurts nearby businesses.
A coffeehouse with more than 12 seats has a higher parking requirement than a regular store. Because of the potential parking shortage with the proposed use, city staff required the applicant to submit a parking demand study. The study showed there would be adequate parking to accommodate Starbucks. The staff surveyed the area and agreed.
