NOTES
Cal Wells, whose Precision Preparation, Inc., of Rancho Santa Margarita has fielded Toyotas in off-road racing, champ cars and Formula Toyota Atlantic, is branching out into NASCAR stock cars with a Ford.
He will join with McDonald’s to run a Taurus in the Busch series next season, with a Winston Cup program planned in 2001, it was announced Saturday at California Speedway.
Bill Elliott will continue to campaign the McDonald’s Ford next year, but Wells said that the driver for his team will be “a young talent on the way up.”
Wells currently campaigns Toyota-powered champ cars for Scott Pruett and Cristiano da Matta in the CART FedEx series, Swift cars for Anthony Lazzaro and Andrew Bordin in the Atlantic series and a Toyota trophy truck for Ivan Stewart in off-road competition.
