Loara’s Banes Drives In Winner in Final Inning
Ryan Banes’ seventh-inning single drove in Jacob Kungle and gave Loara a 6-5 victory over Murrieta Valley in pool play of the Anaheim Lions baseball tournament Tuesday at Boysen Park.
Tim Roncevich hit a solo home run in the fourth to tie the score, 3-3, for Loara (6-10). Murrieta Valley pulled ahead by two in the fifth, but Ryan Gusman hit a two-run single in the seventh for the Saxons to tie the score again.
Pitcher Joe Deguevara won his first game for Loara.
In another tournament game:
Katella 3, Newhall Hart 2--T.J. Jara hit a double in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Mike Martinez for the winning run. Martinez (6-0) was the winning pitcher. Katella is 13-4.
In the Academy League:
Southern California Christian 6, St. Margaret’s 2--Jesse Loya went three for three, with two doubles, one RBI, and three runs scored for host SCC (6-5, 1-1).
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 11, Cerritos Valley Christian 4--Junior Marcus Cutts hit a school-record three home runs and had seven RBIs for Orange Lutheran (4-9, 1-2). Cutts, who has four home runs this season also broke the RBI record of six, set in 1988 by Tim McCann. Junior Ethan Williams hit his first grand slam and Mark Courvoisier struck out 10 for the Lancers.
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 9 Aliso Niguel 12, Laguna Beach 2 (5, mercy)--Pitcher Robert Deven hit his first home run of his high school career for Aliso Niguel (9-7, 4-2) in the top of the fifth. Deven (6-4) gave up six hits and two runs.
