Miller Keeps University Rolling in Golf
University, paced by Ryan Miller’s four-under-par 32, scorched Strawberry Farms Golf Club Tuesday in a 176-248 Pacific Coast League victory over Laguna Beach.
Brian Sinay and Ron Won each shot 35 for the Trojans (9-1, 3-0), whose five-player total was four under par.
In another Pacific Coast League match:
No. 10 Aliso Niguel 217, Costa Mesa 238--Sophomore Matt Schreiber, who birdied the second hole at El Niguel, shot two-over 38 for his eighth medal this season.
In the Golden West League:
No. 4 Servite 197, Tustin 211--Nico Bollini shot par 36 at Tustin Ranch to lead Servite (9-3, 1-1). Tustin is 8-3, 0-1.
In the Orange League:
No. 3 Brea Olinda 193, Valencia 247--Senior Brad Sader shot one-over 37 for Brea Olinda (9-2, 4-0) at El Prado.
In the Sea View League:
No. 1 Santa Margarita 188, Woodbridge 199--Junior Chris Gallagher medaled for the first time for Santa Margarita (8-0, 4-0). Gallagher shot par 36 at Coto de Caza North.
El Toro 188, Corona del Mar 192--El Toro’s Satoru Suzuki shot two-under 34 at Newport Beach Country Club. Chris Franta, Charles Halliday, John Quan and Jon Marble each shot 39 for Corona del Mar.
Newport Harbor 201, No. 7 Irvine 206--Junior Kevin Olsen shot par 36 for Newport Harbor (8-2, 3-1) at Big Canyon. Olsen birdied the first hole and bogeyed the eighth. Irvine’s Jon Friedman made eagle on 486-yard par-five second hole.
In the South Coast League:
No. 5 San Clemente 203, Capistrano Valley 209--Medalist Mark Warman shot two-under 33 for San Clemente (11-0, 5-0) at Marbella.
In the Sunset League:
No. 8 Los Alamitos 374, No. 6 Fountain Valley 381--Brett Dolch had four birdies, shooting one-under 71 for Los Alamitos at Mile Square Park. Ryan Robertson shot three-under 69 with five birdies for Fountain Valley (4-3, 1-2).
In Sunset League boys’ swimming:
No. 9 Marina 121, Huntington Beach 64--Marina’s Jeff Larson won the 50 freestyle in 22.21 seconds, the second-fastest time in the county this season. Larson also swam the second fastest time in the 100 butterfly, winning the race in 53.10. Marina is 3-3, 2-1.
In Sunset League girls’ swimming:
No. 5 Marina 148, Huntington Beach 35--Kyoko Yokouchi won the 100 backstroke in a county-best time of 59.99. She also won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.19 and helped Marina (3-3, 2-1) win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:00.73.
In Century League boys’ tennis:
No. 9 Foothill 15, Canyon 3--Jeff Barry won, 7-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Ryan Katzman swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, for host Foothill (5-2, 2-0).
In the Golden West League:
No. 10 Servite 13, Santa Ana 5--Freshman Patrick Buchanan swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-2, for host Servite (10-2, 5-0).
In the Sea View League:
No. 3 Woodbridge 12, Santa Margarita 6--Senior David Lingman swept his sets without losing a game for Woodbridge (9-3, 3-1).
In the Sunset League:
No. 2 Los Alamitos 18, Huntington Beach 0--Freshman John Mano and senior Cody Jackson each swept in singles without losing a game for Los Alamitos (8-1).
Esperanza 9, Marina 9 (Esperanza wins in games, 81-76)--First-time doubles team Scott Lloyd and Jeff Rider swept, 7-5, 6-1, 6-4, for Esperanza (8-5, 2-1). Marina fell to 5-6, 1-2.
