Allison Lee was chosen women’s coach at Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, Athletic Director Sam Jankovich announced.
Lee, who served as the Matadors’ interim coach since Brian Wiesner resigned in December, had been an assistant at the school for four seasons.
Lee, career scoring leader at Cal Poly Pomona, was varsity coach at Bonita High in 1991 and ’92 and at Corona High, her alma mater, in ’93 and ’94. She takes over a Northridge program that is 20-53-4 since its inception in 1995. Last season, the Matadors were 6-13, 3-4 in the Big Sky Conference.
* Renee Bielling has been selected Antelope Valley College’s first women’s coach.
Bielling’s selection was approved Monday night by the Antelope Valley Community College District Board of Trustees.
The Marauders’ inaugural season is scheduled to begin Aug. 31 at Porterville. The team will compete in the Foothill Conference, with its home matches to be played at the City of Lancaster Soccer Complex.
Bielling started the Antelope Valley High girls’ program in 1985 and coached the team for 10 years.
SWIMMING
* Kenny Carpenter, a senior at Crescenta Valley High, has signed a letter of intent to attend Brigham Young University on a swimming scholarship. Carpenter, the defending Southern Section Division II champion in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, chose BYU over Auburn and USC.
