STF Technologies Bought by Smith Micro

Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software Inc. on Tuesday said it acquired STF Technologies Inc., which makes communications software for Macintosh personal computers, for $1.9 million in cash and stock.

Privately held STF Technologies, whose flagship product FAXstf is bundled by Apple Computer Corp. in its products, had sales of $2.5 million last year.

The company, founded in 1988 and headquartered in Blue Springs, Mo., is currently broadening its product line to include fax, data, voice, Internet, and e-mail communications for business and home users.

The deal called for Smith Micro to pay $1 million in cash and 409,164 newly issued shares of common stock.

Smith Micro stock rose 6 cents Tuesday to close at $2.25 a share.
