A Busy Day in Los Angeles for China’s Premier
Zhu Rongji, China’s premier and economic czar, will have a busy day of meeting business and political leaders on his visit to Los Angeles today. Shortly after his arrival from Beijing, Zhu will meet California Gov. Gray Davis, Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan and the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors and some 50 local business leaders before a luncheon in his honor at the Century Plaza hotel, sponsored by the mayor’s office.
Businesspeople co-hosting the luncheon with the mayor will be Thomas Cusack, chairman of TransAmerica Life Insurance Cos., Philip Neal, president of Avery Dennison Corp., Dominic Ng, president of East West Bank, Peter Chernin, chairman of Fox Group and Robert Wynne, co-president of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
After lunch, Zhu will meet with Michael Eisner, chairman of Walt Disney Co., among other private appointments.
In the evening, the premier will attend a dinner in his honor held by the Chinese American Friendship Society.
Zhu flies to Washington on Wednesday for meetings with President Clinton and members of Congress. Later in his nine-day U.S. trip, Zhu will visit Denver, Chicago, New York and Boston.
