Now That’s Using His Head
If he wasn’t a head of his times before now, this should certainly cement his reputation.
“Jack,” founder and spokes-- . . . er . . . how about head honcho, has, since his 1995 resurrection, served as Jack in the Box’s wry and dapper corporate icon. After being unceremoniously blown to bits back in the ‘80s, ol’ Jack, no longer bitter, has made a splashy comeback and will finally get the respect he’s long deserved. He will be honored as a Pez Head--joining Charlie Brown, Batman, Fred Flintstone and, of course, Santa Claus--in one of pop culture’s most venerable halls of fame. Unveiled at the Los Angeles Pez-a-Thon in Manhattan Beach last month, the Jack dispensers are already causing a stir.
According to Eric Schellhorn, director of corporate communications at Jack’s parent company, Foodmaker Inc., “The samples almost caused a riot in a San Jose newsroom.”
So, if that’s any indication, plan your attack early: Limited quantities of Jack Pez dispensers will be available for $1.99 with any purchase at participating Jack in the Box restaurants this summer.
