CSUN Still Can’t Get Past Lovato
Kelly Lovato, from Royal High and Pierce College, struck out nine and limited Cal State Northridge to three singles in Cal State Sacramento’s 3-0 Big West Conference victory on Saturday at Sacramento.
Sacramento (17-15, 5-4 in conference play) swept the Matadors (16-18, 3-6) in a three-game series.
Lovato (10-7) walked one and did not allow a runner past first. She held Northridge to four hits and struck out seven in a 5-1 victory Friday.
Summer Richardson (6-7) of Northridge gave up three hits two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Tara Glaister replaced Richardson and allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine.
Ashlie Hayes, Chastity Johnson and Julie Borenstein had Northridge’s hits.
BASEBALL
The Master’s 4-17, Hastings 3-4--Aaron Penberthy won the first game with a solo home run in the seventh at Master’s and hit two more in the second game for the Mustangs (25-6), who have won 11 in a row.
Matt Berry (4-2) pitched a three-hitter in the first game, striking out five and walking one.
The Mustangs had 16 hits in the second game, when Penberthy had four RBIs.
Rob Avila and Mike Wertz had three hits for Master’s. Avila had two home runs and three RBIs.
Josh Carrington (6-0) and Mark Steenback combined on a six-hitter.
