Tree-Cutters Acted Out of Selfishness

* I have no sympathy for the homeowners involved in illegally cutting down the trees along Interstate 5 in San Clemente.

Their selfish concerns are for their precious views and property values. Well, what about the millions of other California taxpayers who now have to look at their ugly houses on the hill?

If they don’t like it, they should have purchased higher on the hill or elsewhere. Our freeways are ugly enough; I would like to see trees and other greenery instead of just sound walls as I drive.

* Trees are not a nuisance, and if one is gullible enough to pay $30,000 more for a view, I’d suggest that some money be spent on medical care for that individual or individuals.

Trees hold soil down, prevent erosion, help with cleaning of the air, and provide a pleasant view for those of us not able to live so well in this area.

Frankly, the residents of this area sound like a group of crybabies [who believe] they are more important than the community.

Your article showed the selfishness of the Southern Californians, people with more money than thinking ability. I hope the state goes after these four men and lets people know how important trees are to the public.

* It appears from the picture accompanying the article that the only “unobstructed view from his back fence thanks to whomever cut down and killed trees” that Primas White has gained is one of the semis on Interstate 5.

I think I would withhold my thanks.
