Paul Kirby, who resigned as the Estancia girls’ basketball coach last week, has changed his mind and been rehired.

Girls’ Athletic Director Nancy Ferda said Kirby called her and asked if he could come back.

“I had the district [job announcement] flyer in my hand when our boys’ coach, Rich Boyce, told me, ‘I think Kirby is changing his mind and will call you,’ ” Ferda said.

Kirby, a walk-on coach, tendered his resignation March 26 because of increasing conflicts with his full-time job as a purchasing agent.

But, Ferda said, Kirby will have former assistant Roger Sison help handle the team’s sixth-period physical education class as well as the spring and summer league commitments that Kirby cannot make.
