Strader’s All-Around Effort Leads Magnolia

Senior Wes Strader had four hits and three stolen bases to help Magnolia to a 6-4 victory over Brea Olinda in Orange League baseball Friday.

Strader also pitched all seven innings for the victory.

The Sentinels capitalized on five consecutive singles in the fifth to score four runs and take a 5-4 lead.

Jason Gallo scored first for Magnolia, hitting a home run in the second inning. Andy Drapkowski had the only extra-base hit, a double, for host Brea Olinda (7-5, 3-2).

In another Orange League game:

Valencia 10, Western 4--The Tigers trailed, 4-2, but rallied with five runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Matt Contreras went two for four with a home run, triple and one RBI for visiting Valencia (8-4, 4-1). Western is 5-5, 3-2.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 7, Fullerton 6--Host Buena Park scored three runs in the seventh on four walks, an infield hit and Adam Medina’s game-winning RBI single. Fullerton falls to 5-6, 3-2.

La Habra 4, Sonora 2--Dave Zamorano’s RBI single in the fifth tied the score, 1-1, for La Habra. Nick Tolmasoff then followed with a hit that resulted in three runners after an outfield error. Kyle Ballard struck out seven and walked two in six innings to improve to 4-0 for the Highlanders (9-2, 4-1).

Sunny Hills 9, Troy 0--Nathan Hochgesang (1-1) intentionally walked one and gave up only one hit in seven innings for Sunny Hills (8-4, 4-1). Mike Bills went two for three including a double and two RBIs for the Lancers. Teammate Brent Templeton had three hits and two RBIs. Host Troy falls to 0-5 in league.

In the St. Paul Tournament:

El Modena 11, Norwalk Glenn 0 (5, mercy)--Jermaine McIver pitched a one-hitter and Tony Calderon went three for four with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

Hans Gleason went two for four with a home run and four RBIs and Shawn Wright went three for four with three runs scored and one RBI in the first-round victory for visiting El Modena (5-8).
