*** D Generation, “Through the Darkness,” Columbia.

Welding a framework of contemporary contempt onto classic three-chord punk structures, this New York quintet (which opens for the Offspring at the Universal Amphitheatre tonight ) lets out a rebel yell for the here and now. Such buzzing, melodic anthems as the anti-racist “Hatred” bubble with genuine outrage, not to mention wicked guitar hooks. But the commercial deejay’s lament, “Sick on the Radio,” while a compelling idea, isn’t as musically thrilling. Still, in a world of fake anger, D Generation is believably righteous.
