Peredia Helps Sailors Break Through
Robert Peredia scored two-first half touchdowns and Eddie Johnson made two field goals to lead Newport Harbor to its first Sea View League victory Friday, defeating El Toro, 19-7, at Newport Harbor High.
Peredia, who rushed for 183 yards in 41 carries, gave the Sailors (6-3, 1-3 in league) a 7-0 lead with 1 minute 5 seconds left in the first quarter on a six-yard run. With 6:50 left in the half, Peredia scored on a 10-yard run to make it 13-0.
Johnson gave Newport Harbor a 16-0 halftime lead with a 42-yard field goal, and he closed out the Sailors’ scoring with a 26-yarder in the third quarter.
El Toro’s score came in the third quarter on a one-yard run by quarterback Mike Strand.
Strand completed eight of 19 passes for 111 yards with three interceptions for El Toro (2-7, 0-4).
Steve Gorman completed eight of 16 passes for 122 yards with one interception for Newport Harbor.
