Animal Aid Fund-Raiser Has a Home
A local group that helps save stray animals is calling itself lucky to have found a home for its annual fund-raising event today.
The Animal Rescue Foundation, or ARF, was going to have its “Pirates of the Wharf” fund-raiser at Delaney’s Restaurant in the Dana Point Harbor until just a few weeks ago.
That’s when the group learned the restaurant, which had been donating space and food for the benefit, had apparently gone out of business, according to Sue Walshe, foundation board member.
After a last-minute scramble, Dr. Daniel Kulick, a husband of one of the group’s committee members, made a donation allowing the group to rent the new Harbor Lights facility at 24707 Dana Point Harbor Drive.
“It’s a cause I believe in--the animals have no one else to watch out for them,” said Kulick of his efforts.
The event, which will run from 3 to 7 p.m., will include live music, food, drinks and a silent auction.
Guests are encouraged to wear seafaring costumes. Tickets are $20 per person, or $35 per couple.
Information: (949) 240-2899, Ext. 4.
The Animal Rescue Foundation formed six years ago to raise money to help find homes for stray animals in the city.
The group is the city’s equivalent of the Friends of San Clemente Animals. Both groups share the San Clemente Animal Shelter.
The shelter is pro-humane, which means it only puts animals to sleep if they have extreme medical problems or are vicious.
