3 Saddleback Students Sweep Design Awards
Three Saddleback College students recently took first-, second- and third-place awards in the 1998 design competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architects Orange County.
Sonnie Gutierrez of Mission Viejo won a $500 scholarship for first, Jeff Cary of Mission Viejo won $300 for second, and James Buckman of Laguna Niguel won $200 for third.
Three projects by students at Esperanza High School in Anaheim received top honors in the high school division. Martin Achterhof and Jon Dye tied for first place and received $250 scholarships; Joshua Duncan won a $200 scholarship.
Competitors designed and built art galleries-- structures that are themselves works of art. The winning models from the college competition are on display at Saddleback’s Technology and Applied Science complex.
