Brooks’ Boxed Set Is Sure Seller
Garth Brooks’ budget-priced boxed set, “The Limited Series,” was the nation’s best-selling album for the second week in a row. The package sold about 190,000 copies during the seven-day period that ended Sunday, according to SoundScan.
Meanwhile, Hanson’s “Three Car Garage” enters the chart at No. 6, giving the teen-idol trio its third Top 10 album.
Garbage’s “Version 2.0,” the follow-up to the band’s multiplatinum 1995 debut, enters at No. 13 after selling about 88,000 copies during its first week in stores.
The nation’s best-selling single was Next’s “Too Close,” which returns to the top spot after yielding to Mariah Carey’s “My All” the last two weeks.
What’s Hot
Here are some recent releases that are generating critical or commercial attention:
Garbage’s “Version 2.0” (ALMO Sounds). Shirley Manson and bandmates Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker land squarely among the rare acts that have turned their love and understanding of pop into an art form.
Dave Matthews Band’s “Before These Crowded Streets” (RCA). It’s hard to find fault with Matthews, as so many have, just because he dares to be both musically ambitious and crowd-pleasing. He has never before reconciled those two impulses so effectively.
What’s New
Various artists’ “Godzilla” soundtrack (Epic/Sony Music Soundtrax), Natalie Merchant’s “Ophelia” (Elektra), Soulja Slim’s “Give It 2 ‘Em Raw” (No Limit).
What’s Coming
Tuesday: Mo Thugs’ “Family Scriptures Chapter II: Family Reunion” (Mo Thugs/Relativity).
