Kevin Costner and Natalie Cole were among the entertainers at “America Celebrates Israel at 50” presented by Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and the Simon Wiesenthal Center on April 14 at the Shrine Auditorium. More than 1,000 guests attended the show and gala, which raised $100,000 for the federation’s Israel Experience, which sends teens to Israel.

USC’s School of Public Administration honored former U.S. Secretary of Education William Bennett at its 16th Ides of March dinner on April 15 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. The event raised $400,000 for scholarships for graduate students.

The House Ear Institute raised $400,000 at its annual black-tie gala held this year on March 30 at the Beverly Hilton. Arco CEO Mike R. Bowlin was honored as Humanitarian of the Year for his community leadership in causes that focus on education, youth and health care.

Dresses belonging to the late actress Elizabeth Montgomery were auctioned at the Duet restaurant in Westwood on April 26 and raised $20,000 for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Montgomery died of cancer in 1995. Her husband, actor Robert Foxworth, donated her wardrobe to the charity.

The Southern California chapter of American Women in Radio and Television netted $10,000 for its scholarship fund at the Genii Awards on April 16 at the Beverly Hilton. . . . The Israel Museum in Jerusalem received $170,000, proceeds from the American Friends of the Israel Museum luncheon on April 7 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
