800 Numbers Still Get the 411 on Callers
“FCC Restricts Phone Firms’ Use of Data on Customers” [Feb. 20] said “that an individual’s telephone dialing habits cannot be used to market other phone services to him unless the customer gives his permission.”
Should that not apply to selling your identity to operators of 800 numbers? You can block caller ID access to your identity but not when you call an 800 number.
“The 800 subscriber has paid for his access” was the operator’s explanation to me.
