Mobile Clinic to Teach Kids Volleyball
Free volleyball clinics will be held next week for youths and coaches.
The clinics are open to youths ages 7 to 18 who are new to the game, as well as those who want to perfect their jump serve or learn how to hammer a spike.
The sessions will be offered by the Nike Volleyvan, which is used to develop grass-roots volleyball by offering free clinics around the country.
“It’s part of USA Volleyball’s outreach to populations that oftentimes don’t get to play the game,” said Dale Hoffman, assistant vice president for USA Volleyball beach championships.
Participants will be able to keep in touch with coach Craig Lenninger after the clinic through e-mail.
“The kids can e-mail him from town to town and it’s really a neat thing because it makes volleyball much more global for the kids,” Hoffman said.
Coaches’ clinics will be held for those interested in starting or furthering existing programs.
The first Ventura stop on Monday will be at the Boys & Girls Club at 1929 Johnson Drive from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The following evening, the Volleyvan will stop at the Ventura High School girls’ gym, 2155 E. Main St., from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
