Policy Toward India
Re “U.S. Respect Only a Nuke or Two Away,†International Outlook, June 3: Jim Mann has done an outstanding job for the public by articulating the truth that, as stated by Chalmers Johnson, “What’s happened in India is an unintended consequence of America’s China policy.â€
There is no question in my mind that India’s insecurities got lost in the Washington foreign policy shuffle. Otherwise, why is the U.S. once again playing favorites to China, an authoritarian regime, by granting it most-favored-nation status, while admonishing India, the largest democracy of nearly 1 billion people?
